Since 2008, we’ve been teaching Auckland visitors and locals to ride the sensational Segway Personal Transporter.

A Segway tour is one of the best leisure activities in Auckland. It’s fun, safe and interesting—plus you get to be outdoors, feeling the refreshing breeze of Waitemata Harbour on your face as you glide along the waterfront.

I’m Pauline, owner and operator of Magic Broomstick Auckland Segway Tours.

My late husband started Magic Broomstick after taking a memorable holiday in Paris. He took a guided Segway tour and fell in love with the personal transporter, so he brought them back to our home in Devonport to make Magic Broomstick Segway Tours one of Auckland’s top Activities.

I’ve been running the business since mid 2009, learning the ropes and being the tour guide. Fast forward all these years and we’ve kept his dream alive, offering Auckland Segway hire experiences for all occasions and employing some incredible Segway tour guides to help us through the busy seasons.

Our Devonport Segway tours are a great, environmentally-friendly way to get out and explore. They’ve quickly become a favourite tourist attraction in Auckland, and we look forward to many more years of sharing the Segway Sensation with tourists and locals.

We have years of Segway experience and hours upon hours of ‘riding time’ under our belt, so we know what it takes to teach people how to safely ride one of these state of the art machines.

It’s human nature to be a little apprehensive when learning something totally new, so your tour guide will take the time to individually help you through the process of learning to ride a Segway (it really is easy!) and give you plenty of time to practice before you embark on your Auckland Segway experience.

Our guides are experienced Segway riders, able to handle all conditions while keeping a watchful eye on you and for any potential hazards. Being a Segway guide for Magic Broomstick Segway Tours combines a lot of the things I love – fresh air, chatting to people, Devonport and, of course, actually riding the Segways!

Having only lived in the area for nearly twenty years I’m not really considered a local yet – but, having lived all my life in Auckland, I’m a very proud Aucklander and I love to talk about Auckland and Devonport. I grew up having day trips with my family to North Head, Cheltenham and Mt Victoria and dreamed about living closer. Well the dream came true and my husband and I have raised our 2 sons on this wonderful peninsula that has such a great sense of community and access to so many activities that define Auckland.

Being on a Segway is unique as there aren’t many places that have them. I love it when first time riders hop on, get their first wobbles over with, then take their first tentative ride along the training ground, and then realise that it’s not scary, it really is fun and let’s get going on our tour as they just want to ride!

I never tire of the views going up Mt Victoria – love to hear the “Wow” of the riders behind me; or riding into Balmain Reserve to view Rangitoto and Cheltenham Beach; or when the riders have fun in Mt Cambria wooshing down the slopes – they really get the Segway bug after that.

Hi I’m Ngaire — a new tour guide at Magic Broomstick Tours. I’ve lived in Devonport my whole life — from Devonport Primary to now studying Politics and German at the University of Auckland. The community has played a big part in my life and I love to show Devonport’s lifestyle to people from all over the world. Our seaside village has so many stories to share.

Riding Segways is a ridiculous amount of fun. A Segway tour is the perfect way to see Devonport with ease and speed. There are all the benefits of a walking tour: access to the stunning beaches and parks, and pausing is simple. But unlike walking, you can tackle much longer distances and bigger climbs, too. Reaching beautiful Cheltenham Beach and even the summit of Mt Victoria or North Head is easy on a Segway. It’s pretty darn cool to zoom up mountains – effortlessly!

Outside of Segwaying over summer, I enjoy tramping and hope to volunteer for the Department of Conservation at some point. One of my favourite tracks so far is up Hawdon valley to Walker Pass. But in summer the best place to be is the beach!
